So, Horrid Henry..... Believe it or not I never really got into the book series when I was a kid, I was never really one for chapter books. So I don't really have any knowledge on this series to be perfectly honest, but just from this episode alone maybe I'm glad I never read the books. Why is it in most cartoons child characters have to be cruel, disgusting, obnoxious, stupid or in some cases all 4 at once? In Rocket Power Otto Rocket is a vain, prideful asshole, in the Cramp Twins both Wayne and Lucien can be evil and disgusting, and Lucien is supposed to be the good guy! The reason is because this is what's Network executives believe kids want to see, they want a REBEL! They want a kid whose not afraid to break the rules and be as nasty as they wanna be! Sometimes having a character like Montana Max or the above mentioned others is ok in small doses, but NOT when they're the main characters that appear in every single episode unless they are a villain, and even then they cannot be the main focus! Fortunately with shows like Adventure Time, Sofia the First and Steven Universe this trend seems to be dying quickly.

From what I've seen just from this episode alone I think I have a good idea of how Horrid Henry works, he's a nasty little prick with an obnoxious voice that just likes to be plain horrible to everybody around him that doesn't share his nasty interests so he can get his way, and even then he don't give a fuck. Am I somewhere in the ballpark? Also when he gets really pissed he turns into a T-Rex, kinda like Katie Kaboom from Animaniacs only without the period metaphor. Actually I prefer Katie over this asshole because she has the excuse of puberty!

This episode starts with, I guess Henry's brother watching an Elephant Show/Barney ripoff when Henry jumps in and turns off the tv so he can watch it. His brother then starts to obnoxiously cry and whine to Henry that it's his turn to use the DVD player, wow, it hasn't even been a minute and I hate both of these kids! Henry then starts to birth and complain that he's already seen all his DVDs like a million billion times or whatever and before he can devour his brother his, I guess accomplice (I don't think this kid has friends) knocks on the window to tell him he's got this DVD that is supposedly the grossest thing in the word! Snot, Boogie, farting, Poo, we're all sick and so are you! I didn't just throw in random words, that's how the other kid described the DVD, because we all know gross outs what the kiddies want to see!

In order to watch this DVD without his brother or parents knowing because they're absolutely right to mistrust and stop him, Henry manipulates his brother into believing there's a "Happy Hippo Parade" coming down the street, what a prick. But before he can watch his disgusting movie his aunt comes over to visit, I guess. Another problem this show has is given everybody has a thick British accent I can barely understand what anybody is saying; yes I know this was made and aired in the UK but it's based on an American book series. And beyond the thick accents every single voice in this thing sounds pitched and barely audible. His mother is actually right to be suspicious of Henry's motives when he tells them to have tea in the kitchen away from the TV, and then the baby throws up! No vomit discretion shot either, we see it! He at least we didn't see the baby shit her diaper in full view.

Henry then tells them he wants to clean the vomit and the living room anyways to "help out" and given his reputation I wouldn't believe him for a second. I'd stay behind and WATCH him clean the whole room first! From top to bottom. Parents being oblivious to their children sounding out of character via an ulterior motive is getting to be tiring and cliche! And second times a charm before he can watch Gross Class Zero his dad comes home; and we get that tired old cliche where he puts the movie he wanted to see in the wrong box and vice-versa. I believe Doug did this gag and did it better in Doug's Secret Song; that episode worked because it had a surprise twist ending nobody saw coming to keep us in the dark, here I know EXACTLY what's going to happen!

Because his poor father wants to sleep in the living room, Henry tries to sneak the television up to his room, and he thinks  nobody will notice! Predictably his brother sees him trying to steal the TV and DVD player and this makes Henry fall down the stairs flat in his ass! I've actually fallen down a flight of stairs as a child, I rolled into a door like Sonic the Hedgehog! This alerts his parents and he gets justifiably called out by his little brother, but the problem is we are supposed to be on Henry's side! Not his brothers or parents side! This is Protagonist Centered Morality, ya know where they confuse who the good guys and bad guys are because they think it's fucking funny? It's pretty much the main reason shows like Teen Titans Go, Breadwinners, King of the Hill Atrocities and a lot of what I've actually reviewed fail in truth be told.

That being said it is satisfying seeing his brother and parents chew out Henry. So as a last resort he goes to this Frankie Foster prostitutes treehouse to watch her DVD player. And this bitch Margaret is worse than him apparently, but they're kinda right to torment him like this. I'd find it cathartic if they weren't all bitches. After so much stalling we see that Henry actually had a Happy Hippo DVD the whole time, he accidentally putting his movie him his brothers box set! It would be surprising if we didn't already see the switch with our own eyes!

As an added kick to the nuts his dad actually picked up Gross Class Zero from the library and he likes the movie since he has a dick. Because he fucked around so long he has to go to bed so he doesn't GET to watch the movie now AND he loses his allowance! I'd be happy about this if I wasn't supposed to feel bad for him, which isn't going to happen! At the very least his brother didn't end up watching his nasty film, not that I give a shit about any of these characters anyway! While I think Stressed Eric is the worst cartoon to come out of the UK, this is the second worst, and Pixel Pinkie is 3rd in case you were curious. It isn't funny or entertaining to watch a snot nosed little brat go around being horrid to everybody when they're intended to be the protagonist, it wasn't funny when The Cramp Twins did it and it isn't funny here. And although Henry gets consequences for his actions we aren't supposed to be happy about this, which is a big big mistake.
