Description

Show: Pixar Shorts
Episode: N/A
Year: 2003

Writer(s): Bud Luckey

Of all the Pixar shorts past and future this is easily one of the most unique ever made. Being one of the only shorts not based off one of the movies with prominent dialogue alone helps it stand out from the crowd; but in all honesty there's so much more to it than signing! The style it goes for as a classic folktale alone I still enougnto sell me on it and give me a warm fuzzy feeling inside, almost like our shorn little buddy here!

Boundin' to me is very reminiscent of the original Silly Symphonies and classic Disney shorts, and it fits that mold more than all the other Pixar Shorts by its at atmosphere, music and characters. Yeah I've seen the "Be Yourself" Moral done  million times but when you do it right does it even matter? We all know it's the characters who pull it off that make this shine the best! And thee s just something about that Jackalope that I really like... and I think I should go deeper into that by talking about his voice actor and the writer of this short Bud Luckey (1934-2018).

Bud is no stranger to the world of animation having a career that goes back to the early 1960s as an animator and storyboard artist on things like The Alvin Show. Although not a major figure his contributions to the medium are something I respect I would say his best quality is his voice. His brief roles in the world of voice actions aren't soemthing to sneeze at, he's actually got a very nice tone going for him making him perfect for the role of the monotone smart guy like Eeyore in Winnie the Pooh or Chuckles in Toy Story 3. But more often than not his best contribution was singing given he was an on-of singer and songwriter for Sesame Street as far back as 1972 it makes this short all the more impressive.

Bud wasn't not only the voice of the Jackalope here but also the writer of this particular short in not just its story but the song as well! The man was a modern day Burk Ives! Actually, that's a very apt comparison since this is something Mr. Ives would've done. Mr. Luckey I must say your last name is very fitting because I'm lucky to have known you as one of Pixars unsung hero. I hope that wherever you have gone you continue to bound where there are Jackalopes around.

Boundin' is owned by Disney and Pixar.

I remember seeing a Cars parody on the Blu-Ray DVD, and that was my first introduction to this short.
