I didn’t bring this up in the first part but… regarding contests? To really shake things up and make things be a real shocker? I have Jessie actually WIN contests. In fact I have her beat May TWICE! Both completely fair and square and crushing her. In fact, Jessie is the one who wins the Grand festival In Kanto. Team Rocket’s Grand theatrics of villainy and showmanship finally pay off for her. They are BUILT for the contest scene! The Battle Frontier is a fascinating period in the Pokémon anime’s life cycle. Especially concerning the dub shifting back to TAJ Productions when 4Kids did it in-house starting from near the end of Johto. Due to internal politics many actors were not able to reprise their roles or couldn’t come back due to contracts and what have you until the turnover to DuArt. I dropped out around this time for very obvious reasons plus, the fact that so much of what this did was underwhelming. Being a return trip through Kanto I don’t just utilize Chronicles elements

The changing of the guard is always a big step when it comes to any franchise really. A transitional period between the old and the new. And leaping from 8 to 32 bits on a handheld device is a major shift. It only makes sense the Pokémon anime would follow suit when this is the first series without the original head writer Takeshi Shudo, who left due to the politics of the industry basically almost killing him. I remember falling out of Pokémon around this time, at least with the anime, even before the voice cast change. But I also recall a time when I marathoned the whole show via rentals from the library. I think for the sake of keeping this simpler and more manageable I’ll do Hoenn here and The Battle Frontier in the second part since it’s a separate region. In regards of how teams are handled I wouldn’t really change a thing. Ash still gets his team, May gets hers, Brock gets whatever is shelled out. However I change how they’re handled big time. For a time, this was the longest Pokémon regional journey Ash had been on until Diamond and Pearl. And to many this is the point where the series went bad, or at least lost its luster. Let’s get the most obvious fix out of the way right now: the filler. Ok, that’s not the right word to use, I meant to say “breather episodes”. But you get what I mean, yes? Greater focus is placed on what Ash really wants for himself as a trainer. The decision of whether or not to bring his old Pokemon with him, or start fresh weighs on his mind. As of this writing he still has Charizard, Hitmonchan, Snorlax, Muk, Kingler and the 30 Tauros. As for how Ash goes about captures this time around… I still have Ash go with Charizard to start things off with Snorlax staying behind because of the cost to feed the thing alongside Muk growing attached to Prof. Oak. Like the original Johto league he transitions from his old to new regional team still capturing Heracross, Chikorita and Noctowl and Phanphy. I am
