I just wanna say the Celadon Gym is one of my least favorite gyms in the games, it's a bitch to get into, and in game they imply they are sexist, though that doesn't stop you from challenging Erika. The basic idea is that Ash says perfume is stupid to the employers of a perfume shop and the owner kicks him out. This owner is the gym leader herself, Erika, and apparently she has the authority to ban anybody from her gym that doesn't like perfume; despite the fact that it's her JOB to accept all challenges! Brock and Misty do nothing to defend Ash and Pikachu even shocks his own master! This can easily be misconstrued as saying they don't like males in the gym. Also I call bullshit on Erika's story of how she got Gloom; there's no way in fuck that a Gloom smells worse than a GRIMER!

Ash has to help his worst enemies break into the gym as his only option. Now personally, I'd just say fuck it and move onto another gym, blasting them off at the very thought of helping them; or I'd do like they did and just set fire to the gym with everyone inside, even my best friends. It's a real shame too, this gave us cross dressing Ash. I'd also like to point out Gloom's shit smell is overpowered as all fuck, Ash could've just used Pidgeotto to blow back the smell, or Primeape could've gotten so angry the smell wouldn't work, by the by waste of not using Primeape in its second to last appearance, which I'll touch upon next review.

After Team Rocket set fire to the gym being morons, Ash VERY RELUCTANTLY goes into the flaming gym to save Gloom; now normally, I wouldn't mind him getting a badge this way, except it overshadows Erika being corrupt and possibly sexist. Isn't that the reason we have inspectors for this kind of thing? Thankfully this is the final time Ash is just handed a badge for not winning a battle, he would've lost badly anyways. I wouldn't mind this if Team Rocket didn't start the fire, and no I'm not going to make a Billy Joel joke.

What pisses me off the most about this episode (and many Kanto episodes) is the fact Pikachu seemed more comfortable in Misty's company than Ash's and as his supposed "best, iconic friend" didn't bother to stay by his side while he was kicked out but stayed with Misty instead, without even showing any concern about Ash at all.. And ofc the fact nobody has defended him because he was portrayed as the rude one who deserved it.. I really HATE the vibe of this episode.
