Description

How: SpongeBob Squarepants
Episode: 147a
Year: 2010

Writer(s): Dani Michaeli, Aaron Springer

This is the way the world ends. Someday, Steven Universe will end, but SpongeBob will still be going, making more and more new episodes, recycling the same ideas over and over again, never going away, no matter how much people hate it. This is the kind of episode you make when you stop caring. Right off the bat, Patrick forgets whom SpongeBob IS! Even though he should know who SpongeBob is. He should also know how to play hide-and-seek; they've played it before in "Wormy" and "Buried in Time". Continuity or not, that's something very fucking basic. THE FUCKING RUGRATS know how to play hide-and-seek! The first 2-3 minutes of this episode could be cut out entirely and it wouldn't make a difference. Mr. Krabs and Mrs. Puff have no reason to be in this episode beyond another tired joke about Mr. Krabs being cheap and Mrs. Puff being miserable, but at least the latter didn't get arrested again. Also, how can SpongeBob pilot a submarine when he can't drive a boat? That's a problem in other episodes as well, but this is prevalent here as well.

Patrick is just insufferable here; 3-year-olds aren't this frustrating when being taught hide-and-seek. And he forgets what hide-and-seek is again right after SpongeBob performs a sock puppet show to explain the rules! He goes back into his house and SpongeBob thinks he's still playing the game. I absolutely hate idiot plots like this; it is one of the worst types of plots out there. Patrick NOTSTAR is the absolute laziest character ever made on this show, but he looks very badass I'll admit. And he's right: losing isn't so bad if you had fun playing the game, except Patrick WASN'T PLAYING! The ending would've given this episode some leeway if not for Patrick forgetting what hide-and-seek is again.
