I hate this show. Why does the Cleveland show even exist? Unlike Family Guy it didn't start out strong and it stayed in its dulldrums for forever. It also tried way too hard to be racist all the time, and it wasn't ever funny. Cleveland was not a character made to be able to hold a series, he was meant to be the straight man and a sane man to Peter and his friends antics, he works best at working off the other characters, but when others have to work off him it doesn't work unless he's a fat spastic idiot like Peter Griffin. Though that really started when Family Guy got revived the first time, when he was reduced to just another walking black joke.
His family are just black clones of the Griffins, and not even very good ones, their Brian clone is a Christian bear who I think is Russian or Slavic. The Quagmire of the group is a midget who lives with his mom, and they don't have a cripple for friend, that would be the white power hillbilly stereotype's wife. Yeah, Lester, they try to tone down his racism to make him Cleveland's friend but it barely works, and the irony is that Kevin Michael Richardson, the guy who plays Lester, is in fact black himself and he does Cleveland Jr. as well. This episode is going to focus on that racist relationship, during Black History Month. So let's get to it.
This episode starts with Rallo, the Stewie Griffin ripoff's teacher, who I think is a Jewish stereotype, telling him that at one point, African Americans were slaves, which you don't teach 5 year olds. They're trying to be shocking, but it doesn't work if you can predict every single joke. This show isn't just a ripoff of Family Guy, it's Family Guy watered down about 4 times! This makes Rallo into a black supremacist who points out how racist their neighbors the Krinklesac's (that's Lester's last name) are, pointing this out doesn't make it go away. Any episode that has Lester learn to be more tolerable he'll just forget next episode. That's another reason I stopped caring about Family Guy's characters, they never learn and neither do these guys.
Meanwhile Cleveland finally notices Lester's racism after Rallo's stupidity sinks into him and they get into a poorly animated bar fight. Again, much like Family Guy the animation is very lazy, background characters don't even move, not even during a high speed chase. This gets them sent to court where the judge, who is a stereotype of a laid back teacher, sentences them to make a float, which wouldn't be legal in this case at all, then again it isn't the worst court sentence I've ever seen. And during the floats construction Rallo decides to steal the Krinklesac's confederate flag, while it is racist, you can argue it's also a British flag, so it's a very confusing thing to discuss, which they don't, ever.
Rallo is able to sneak out of going to the parade where the float will be shown because he has terrible parents and he ends up getting crushed by Lester's wife after she falls off her rascal. Once again, the joke is very predictable. And to spoil the resolution he gets out from under Kendra by making her sweat and orgasm by describing side dishes from Red Lobster using the sweat as lubricant, and Rallo pops out from under Kendra her like she gave birth. Once again, you can't make a joke funny if you already know where it's going, also, eww.
During the parade trying way too hard to be racist, Lester carelessly throws a cigarette at one of the float's black models and it catches the head on fire. This makes Cleveland fight him again and causes the float to go out of control while Donna chases after them. This scene is also badly animated as the crowds don't so much as flinch. And when they get back to the house they find Rallo saved Kendra's life, by being gross. Also they don't seem to care that Kendra's diabetes doesn't make sense, EATING sugar would cause a shock coma, not a lack of it. Rallo didn't really save Kendra and neither Cleveland or Lester really get better by the end, they just pretend they did, and admit they'll just beat each other again. Oh and it turns out Lester doesn't even know about it being the Confederate flag, it was just an autographed Dukes of Hazzard flag and he doesn't know about the KKK, but those are his wife's initals, for the last time, PREDICTABLE!
This show isn't offensive, it's boring and dull. It didn't make me laugh once. It was just tedious and annoying all the way through and I could predict every joke. Thankfully this show died after 4 seasons, that's 4 seasons too much.
