Description

Show: Courage the Cowardly Dog
Episode: S4 E1b
Year: 2002

Writer(s): Bill Aronson
Director(s): John R. Dilworth

One thing I have to give Courage credit for is their very unique villains, you know their kin, Katz, LeQuack. Freaky Fred, King Ramses ect. Two of the most underrated villains in the series are the twin rat Devils. I'm totally serious by the way, these rats are actually pretty impressive. Through the use of ballet to Tchaikovsky's amazing track of The Nutcracker they are able to constantly corner Courage and Muriel throughout the dump, always managing to stay one step ahead of Courage, to the point where they manage to get the drop on him and snag Muriel right from under him. The rats are interesting in that while they can't talk, they're pretty much just as sentient as Courage and have Katz' relentless determination. Courage literally manages to beat them by beating them in what amounted to a breakdancing competition, all with the help of an antique nutcracker. I'm honestly surprised this episode doesn't get more love. By the way this does count as a Christmas review, it was on the first Cartoon Network Christmas DVD and The Nutcracker is a major Christmas Classic, so why the hell not?

Courage is owned by Cartoon Network and Warner Brothers.
