Show: Oh Yeah! Cartoons
Episode: Pilot
Year: 1998

Writer(s): Bill Burnett

To this day Nickelodeon's Oh Yeah! Cartoons remains one of the biggest and most successful animation development projects ever created for tv, giving several dozen filmmakers the chance to create over 100 7-minute cartoons for their program and bringing about 3 Nicktoons with The Fairly Oddparents, Chalk Zone and My Life as a Teenage Robot. It helped to boost the creates of such names as Seth MacFarlane, Steve Marmel, Rob Renzetti, Carlos Ramos and of course Butch Hartman. Even with the successes that came out of it there are still many cartoons that fell by the wayside and are relatively forgotten to this day, and for sure I'll do many of them. This right here might be one of the funniest of them all though.

Things such as the original Looney Tunes back in the golden age of animation were exceptionally self-aware and being aware of their being cartoons this lead to all sorts of creative possibilites like having them play with the film to back talking the animators. But what if there was a cartoon who wanted to be funny but didn't know what exactly the concept of funny is? Slapp T. Pooch is that cartoon! You might remember him from the opening intro to The Rugrats Movie, well after that he got a shot to be in his very own cartoon where he had to learn the ins-and-outs of what is funny? What is funny? What is funny? What is funny? I don't know, I'm asking! Slapp goes through and endless array of hoops to learn what exactly can make a cartoon funny, from being dropped into a vat of Stockbrokers and sucker fish to being locked up a prison for criminally insane gingerbread men! That's the beauty of cartoons that have no fourth-wall, they can basically do whatever it is they want and they rolled with it. I wish more cartoons could be more creative with animation such as this and learn how to do it the right way rather than just being cruel, gross or vulgar for its own sake.

What is Funny is owned by Nickelodeon, Viacom and Frederator.
