I'm not gonna let you stand there and remind me of everything I hate about myself!"

- Amethyst

Garnet is my favorite of the 3 Crystal Gems besides Steven, but Amethyst is the one I relate to the most as my second favorite. I see a lot of myself in her: I can be useful, but a lot people don't take me all that seriously, and no, I was not an accidental birth. And while I tend to be a goofball, I can be serious when the need arises, and yeah, I'm also a bit of a pigpen. Given that Amethyst is the most human of the Gems, even though she doesn't need to eat or sleep, she does enjoy doing these thing because she sees them as fun, a stark contrast to Pearl who finds such activities uncouth and disgusting. I would love for a The No Home Boys book to be released; though given all The Hardy Boys books out there, it would have to be a parody of those or the ill-fated graphic novel adaptation.

It is here we get our first real insight into Amethyst's character, despite her attitude the way Pearl and Garnet treat her like a human child does get on her a lot, as was shown before in the episode "Tiger Millionaire". But here, it drives her so much she honestly decides to run away with Steven, since the two of them relate to each other in more ways than one. We learn where Amethyst was born in this episode: the Kindergarten. And while it hasn't been explored that much so far, I can already tell this going to be handled well than the birth mechanics of the 2011 animated film atrocity Mars Needs Moms. Amethyst views herself as a mistake, since from what little we've been told about this place that Gems were created here like clones of sorts, but they aren't at all like the Gems back on Homeworld. Had the project not been stopped, it would've somehow destroyed Earth, and even though we aren't told how that could be, I'm pretty sure that just by looking at it, you can put two and two together.

Pearl ultimately finds Amethyst and is absolutely horrified that she would bring Steven here. If what I can gather is factual, this is the Gem equivalent of either a concentration camp or an illegal testing facility where abominations were made; most likely a combo of the two? Amethyst here is so broken and frustrated with her life that she honestly refers to herself as a parasite! Pearl actually has to FIGHT Amethyst to get her to come home, leading to Amethyst breaking down and saying this:

Amethyst: "I never asked for it to be this way. *tears fall down her face* I never asked to be made! […] What?! You had no idea!? *motions to the hole* This is, like, my entire existence! You want to pretend that none of this ever happened! You think I'm just a big mistake!"

It is Steven who manages to rightfully call Pearl out on how selfish she is, how she expects everything to be perfect as she thinks she is. She's the main reason Amethyst and her don't get along. Pearl has to be the one to calm Amethyst down and assure her outright that she isn't a mistake, merely the byproduct of a humongous mistake, but she never thought of THIS as the real Amethyst.

You can easily reword this episode into being about someone who was an unwanted pregnancy or the child of very bad parents, even those who were born artificially. All life is precious, but not everybody is dealt a good hand in life. Nobody asks to be born and not everybody can live a full enriching life, but we try not to let ourselves become that which we want to distance ourselves from. You are not the same as the parents who never wanted you/abusive parents/caretakers, whatever; you are who YOU are, you are whatever YOU want to be! You are not your creator for better or worse! You matter just as much as anybody else in the world, and for anybody to treat you like a lower life form? They're absolutely disgusting and don't deserve to be apart of your life unless they can own up to their misgivings and cruelty in true honesty!

One of my favorites. This was basically the Amethyst appreciation episode. Even if you don't like her after watching this episode, you gotta appreciate her character and how well written she is.
