On a Frosty Winter's night...
A wagon appeared at the gates of Fort Klugman, carrying pioneers to the frontier. A young woman in the party called Delia, was heavy with child. And though she had journeyed with the virile young men for nigh on one year, none had lain with her, though she was comely. And on this frosty winter's night, young Delia's water broke, almost freezing her to the seat of the wagon. And the pioneer's beseeched the soldiers to grant them entrance, so that she could give birth to her child in the hospital there. But, due to an outbreak of syphilis among the soldiers, the hospital was full. And So there in the the stable among the feed and the tack the yuh uh whatsis, Delia gave birth to a son, whom she called Alvis as was her wont. And since none of the men in the party were the father, it was decided among them that the birth of this child must truly be a miracle!
And it was so... for above the fort, there suddenly and miraculously appeared an awesome and mighty comet! And so brilliant was its light, that there came from all the tribes, (which the soldiers had not yet decimated), shamans! And they rode upon Buffalo, as was their heathen custom, bearing gifts - offerings of whiskey and firearms. and when the shamans saw the child they were in awe... for he glowed as if bathed in a light which was truly not of this world.
Yes indeed crap-screamers! Alvis! The one true son of the American South! He killed for your sins and parted the Rio-Grande! The holiest man to ever slap iron! And to all of you non-believers who think Alvis' love of drinking, guns and revenge was creepy, you can hash it out in hell for all eternity! Alvis will smoke you bitches!
Honestly Sealab 2021 may be the greatest product Adam Reed would ever make untill Archer. The original Hanna-Barbera cartoon from 1972 was fucking BORING! So what did they do? They shot up the boring ass cast of this sci-fi whatsis with all the Coke they can toke and gave them plenty of liquor! This show in essence is what the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic abridged series Friendship is Witchcraft SHOULD'VE BEEN! Both have very similar senses of humor, but Selab never did no creepy song about sibling incest! My point is, Sealab got its dirty humor right! It did far more than just recycle footage of old episodes and paste stuff in the background, it make the show its own separate entity! Behold the greatest abridged series in the universe!
I imagine fans of the original Sealab 2020 might've been pissed to see this, or pleased as punch, whichever. Either way it is one of the classics of the early 2000s and defintiely a more loose feeling cartoon than most of what Adult Swim usually airs, considering a lot of what Adam Reed is involved in uses a realistic dialect for its scripts the dialogue feels very real, like what Rick and Morty would do years later. And this episode is just one of the many reasons Sealab proved that even a piece of crap can shine brightest in the darkness.
Originally this episode was to be of Captain Hank Murphy organizing a Christmas Pagent in the name of Jesus, with him getting tons of facts wrong about the man. However Standards and Practices wouldn't let them use real religions because they're a buncha pussies! So to hide this in such a clever way they changed all the names, and if you have 1/2 a brain I think you'll be able to figure out what's what. When you've got a baby wrapped in asbestos with a little .22 pistol in his hand I doubt you know the first thing about Christmas, but it sure is badass! "Vengeance is mine!" Quote Alvis, then he shot that guy right in the freakin' face!
This is easily one of the funniest examples of religious satire I've ever seen outside of South Park. Becaus honestly they didn't get preachy whatsoever and they were still able to get their point across about Christiantiy, whatever it was. Beynd that the episode is just funny as hell, and this won't be the last time I talk about Sealab on any front. Now drink with me deeply of the Bourbon, Scotch and Rye untill such time as we are fighting drunk. Then we shall find, and beat the asses of, the non-believers who dare ruin Alvis' feast!
